How to Set Up a 2-of-3 Multisig Bitcoin Vault (Step-by-Step)
Once you've created your Evoke account, you can set up your 2-of-3 multisig vault. The process takes about 15–20 minutes and requires at least one hardware wallet.
Before you begin
You'll need: at least one hardware wallet (Coldcard, Trezor, or Ledger), a computer with a USB port, your Evoke account login, and a secure location to store your seed phrase backup.
Step-by-step setup
- Connect your first hardware key. Plug in your hardware wallet and follow the on-screen prompts to register it with Evoke. This exports only your public key — your private key never leaves the device.
- Set up your second key. Connect a second hardware wallet, or generate a second key through the Evoke app. For maximum security, we recommend two separate hardware devices stored in different locations.
- Evoke generates the third key. Evoke creates and securely stores a third recovery key. This key is only ever used with your explicit consent during a recovery scenario.
- Your vault is created. Evoke combines all three public keys to generate your multisig wallet address. You can now deposit Bitcoin to this address, and any two of the three keys can authorise a withdrawal.
- Test with a small amount. We strongly recommend sending a small test deposit and then performing a test withdrawal to confirm everything is working before transferring larger amounts.
Common setup issues
If your hardware wallet isn't detected, check that the firmware is up to date and try a different USB cable. If the verification step fails, make sure you're using the latest version of the device's companion app.
Important: Back up your hardware wallet seed phrases and store them securely in separate physical locations. Evoke does not have access to your seed phrases and cannot recover them for you.
