How to Add Heirs to Your Bitcoin Inheritance Plan

Evoke Inheritance lets you assign heirs to your Bitcoin holdings and nominate trusted contacts who can help your family with the technical recovery process. Here's how to set it up.

Adding heirs

For each wallet or holding documented in your Digital Asset Schedule, you can assign one or more heirs. You'll specify:

  • The heir's name and relationship to you
  • What percentage or amount they should receive
  • Any special instructions for their portion
  • Contact information so Evoke can reach them if needed

Adding an heir takes about two minutes. You can update assignments at any time, and we recommend reviewing them annually or after major life events (marriage, divorce, new children, deaths in the family).

Adding technical contacts

Technical contacts are people your family should reach out to for help with the technical side of Bitcoin recovery. Since most people, including most solicitors don't understand hardware wallets or multisig, having a nominated technical contact is crucial. This might be:

  • Evoke's support team (we handle this if you don't nominate anyone else)
  • A trusted friend who understands Bitcoin
  • A financial advisor familiar with digital assets
  • A cryptocurrency-savvy family member

Coordinating with your will

Your Evoke heir assignments should match the beneficiaries named in your will. If there's a mismatch, your solicitor may need to reconcile the two. For this reason, we recommend updating your Evoke plan and your will at the same time.

Note: Evoke does not execute the transfer of assets to heirs — your executor does, following legal due process. Evoke provides the technical information and coordinates the liveness check escalation, but legal transfer happens through your estate.
